The NEW MEXICO EFFECTIVE TEACHING TASK FORCE REPORT is out.

.

This summer the NMACT Board has attended these meetings. While we are not opposed to teacher evaluations that consider student performance we are opposed to the Task Forces recommendations. The underlying assumption in these recommendations is that New Mexico teachers are not doing their jobs. They base these assumptions on test results that they themselves admit are not valid. Their conclusions assume that the only component in student achievement is teacher effectiveness(it's important but certainly not the only component) and the only way to measure effectiveness is thru test scores.
We at NMACT believe that New Mexico teachers and students are outstanding. The problem lies in the inability to properly measure student achievement. When the PED develops such a test we will gladly revisit our position.
